Phoebe’s degree in journalism steered her early career as a publicity officer and editor, writing news, research articles and press releases. This gave her an eye for meticulous detail and accuracy, not to mention exceptional standards of written and verbal English. Her many years working as a secretary in the medical profession have given her a hands on understanding of effective office management and staff supervision.
More recently during her work as a case officer for NHS England, she has developed a vast knowledge of healthcare best practices, operational processes and business systems. As Admin Manager for Psychiatry-UK, Phoebe has single handedly created a busy and successful virtual office management system (in her spare time!) and has recently welcomed her business partner, Jo Tierney, to join her in their new venture of The Modern Office-UK.
Jo has an extensive medical secretary and senior administrative background in both public and private sectors. A career that began in the corporate world of an international company’s head office, working as a PA to the Divisional Finance Director at Board level.
After transferring to the NHS, she worked as a medical secretary in the field of mental health for ten years, working within an Urgent and Inpatient Care setting which demands a calm, unflappable approach under the most challenging circumstances. She also provided complex admin support to the Medical School Programme Director at the Peninsula Medical School, writing induction programmes and chaperoning medical students on their introductions to psychiatry education journeys.
She has freelanced more recently in orthopedics, musculoskeletal, ENT, vascular surgery, physiotherapy and dermatology. She is routinely familiar with verbal dictation across a wide range of accents and disciplines and has extensive knowledge of tried and tested, efficient admin systems. She promotes the use of 'best practice' in all areas of work, always mindful of confidentiality and safe handling of sensitive data.
